We have officially launched the Inner Peace sports championship as part of the Innovative Abilities for Harmony (#IA4H) Project in the Kumba Principal Prison.
As a youth-centred peacebuilding organisation, we fully understand that sports can play a crucial role in the lives of inmates by offering numerous benefits, such as physical and mental health improvement, rehabilitation, and social skills development.
By the end of these three weeks of an interactive football tournament, we are looking at improving the physical and mental health of inmates both directly (inmates who are players, match officials, etc) and indirectly (Inmates watching the matches), speed up their rehabilitation by promoting discipline, goal-setting, teamwork, and self-control, and building their leadership skills and improve on their social interaction within the prison.
