Who we are

A youth-focused association, recognised in Cameroon since 2018

Network for Community Development (NECOD) is a youth-focused association, legally recognised in Cameroon since 2018. We believe young people deserve the tools, the support and the space to shape a peaceful future for themselves and their communities.

Our commitments

  • Dignity
We treat every person we work with as a person first, whatever their circumstances.
  • Participation
We aim to involve young people in shaping the activities that are meant for them.
  • Peace
We choose dialogue, learning and shared activity over division.

Based on NECOD's own public statements.

What we do

Four areas of work, one focus on young people

Our work falls into four areas. Each starts from the same idea: young people, and the communities around them, have strengths to build on.

  • Equipping young people

Training and leadership opportunities that help young people build skills, confidence and self-reliance.

  • Peace and prevention

Sensitisation, sports and research that address the roots of radicalisation and violent extremism.

  • Rehabilitation

Support for the rehabilitation of incarcerated young people, with respect for their dignity.

  • Support for displaced people

Mental health and psychosocial support, training, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and education for internally displaced people.

How we work

Five methods, shared across every area

We combine these methods according to who we work with and what they need.

  1. Training

Skills, leadership and self-reliance, learned together.

  2. Sports

Shared play and friendly competition that bring people together.

  3. Research and advocacy

Evidence-based research that informs what we speak up for.

  4. Sensitisation

Awareness-raising within communities, in plain language.

  5. Mental health and psychosocial support

Care for emotional wellbeing, offered alongside other activities.
